Dr. Jackman has long been a strong advocate for the improvement of health care in Newfoundland and Labrador by making proper eye care accessible and affordable to the people of our local community and our province.
Jackman Eye Institute Day of Giving
As owner and operator of both LENS & LASIK and the Jackman Eye Institute, Dr. Jackman established the very first Jackman Eye Institute (JEI) Day of Giving in 2017, providing free eye health care to those less fortunate in his community.
Along with his staff and several local optometrists, over 50 people, including entire families, were given thorough eye examinations and donated prescription glasses when required. Due to the success of the event, the JEI Day of Giving continues yearly and has helped over 200 local patients.
Team Broken Earth
In 2016, Dr. Jackman had the privilege of travelling overseas to Nicaragua with Team Broken Earth. While there he provided his ophthalmology expertise to those in desperate need of eye care, helping to restore vision to those less fortunate.
Recycle Your Unneeded Glasses
LENS & LASIK works closely with Lion’s Club International to collect and donate used glasses. The Lions Club uses volunteers to process donated glasses for distribution through medical missions around the world.
Operation Eyesight
Through staff donations and patient participation, LENS & LASIK contribute to Operation Eyesight, a Canada-based international development organization founded in 1963. It works to prevent avoidable blindness and to cure blindness that is treatable.
