Dr. Christopher S. Jackman 

Dr. Christopher S. Jackman completed his medical degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland, graduating with the highest average from biochemistry with honours and from medicine amongst the top of his class. He then completed his specialization in ophthalmology with the Ivey Eye Institute at the University of Western Ontario, where he served as Chief Resident. He subsequently completed a Fellowship in Medical Retina at the University of Western Ontario.

Dr. Jackman is nationally recognized as a leader in his field and has given presentations at several major national and international ophthalmology conferences, including the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the Canadian Ophthalmological Society.

Dr. Jackman is a highly respected eye surgeon who is an active member of the St. John’s community and an advocate for improving the availability of health care in the province. Over his career he has performed over 60,000 ocular procedures. As well as being the owner and Medical Director of the Jackman Eye Institute and LENS & LASIK, Dr. Jackman also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University in Newfoundland.

Dr. Ghislain Boudreault

Dr. Ghislain-André Boudreault received his medical degree from Université Laval. He spent part of his training as a resident at the prestigious Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts and went on to complete fellowships at George Washington University in Washington, DC, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland and at Purdue University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Boudreault holds the distinction of being the first Canadian to rank first overall for the American Board of Ophthalmology’s oral exam.

Recognized as a pioneer in the field of refractive surgery in Quebec, Dr. Boudreault has been performing refractive surgery for over 20 years. He became the first surgeon to perform All-Laser LASIK using the IntraLase femtosecond laser east of Ontario.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Boudreault has performed over 50,000 ocular procedures and has experience with many types of refractive surgery technologies.

He has also published and given numerous presentations for his research in the field of refractive surgery and retinopathy.

Associations and Professional Memberships:

Dr. Yao Wang

Dr. Wang received his Honours of Bachelor of Health Sciences at McMaster University in 2010, followed by his medical degree at the University of Toronto in 2014. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Queen’s University where he served as chief resident and obtained his Royal College of Physicians of Surgeons of Canada specialist certification in 2019. He then remained at Queen’s to obtain a subspecialty fellowship in Medical Retina which he finished in 2020.

Dr. Wang practices comprehensive ophthalmology, cataract surgery and medical retina, the latter including patients with macular degeneration and other degenerative conditions, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular diseases, retinal dystrophies, peripheral retinal abnormalities including retinal breaks and other medical diseases of the retina and vitreous. Dr. Wang excitedly welcomes the opportunity to begin his practice in St. John’s and serve the eye care and vision-related needs of Newfoundland and Labrador.
