Your LASIK Journey: From Consultation to Clear Vision
Considering LASIK? You’re not alone. At LENS & LASIK by Jackman Eye Institute, we perform this life-changing procedure thousands of times every year. If you’re wondering what actually happens before, during, and after surgery, we’ve got you covered.
Here’s a clear, step-by-step breakdown of what to expect when you choose LASIK with our expert team.
1. Pre-Procedure Consultation
Your journey begins with a FREE consultation — a key step to determine if you’re a good candidate for LASIK.
During this visit, we’ll perform a comprehensive eye exam and advanced diagnostic imaging to evaluate your corneal health, prescription, and overall eye structure.
Our surgeons will explain your options and recommend the best treatment for your unique eyes. You can also learn more about our flexible financing options so you don’t have to wait to fix your eyes and change your life.

2. Planning and Preparation

If you’re a candidate for LASIK, we’ll schedule your surgery and walk you through all the details.
You’ll receive pre-operative instructions, which may include:
- How to prepare for the procedure
- What to expect on the day of the procedure, including the expected timeline and recommendations for care (e.g., arranging a ride home, post-operative care, etc.)
Our team is here to answer all your questions — from what to expect during the procedure to how long recovery takes.
3. Day of Surgery

LASIK is performed right here at our office on Newfoundland Drive. The entire procedure takes about 10 minutes for both eyes, and patients are usually at the clinic for just a few hours.
Here’s what happens:
- Step 1: We apply numbing eye drops — no needles or general anesthesia needed.
- Step 2: A thin flap is created in the outer layer of the cornea.
- Step 3: A laser gently reshapes the inner cornea to correct your vision.
- Step 4: The flap is carefully repositioned and begins to heal naturally — no stitches required.
Most patients report no pain, just a sensation of pressure or slight movement.
4. Immediately After Surgery
You’ll rest in our recovery area before heading home with a detailed care kit and instructions. You may feel mild irritation or watering for a few hours. Rest is recommended, and most patients already notice clearer vision within 24 hours — if not almost immediately.
5. Follow-Up Care
Your first follow-up is usually the next day, followed by several check-ins over the next few months. Our expert team will monitor your healing and provide you with instructions on how to take care of your eyes.
6. Long-Term Results
Most patients enjoy long-lasting visual freedom and no longer rely on glasses or contacts. LASIK results are permanent — though age-related changes like presbyopia (reading difficulty) may still occur naturally later in life.
