Meet Alexa
Alexa, a long-time employee at LENS & LASIK by Jackman Eye Institute, developed cataracts at a young age. She found herself struggling to see clearly on the road.

After years of helping others explore their vision correction options, Alexa decided to book her own consultation — and discovered she was a perfect candidate for Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE).
Alexa wanted to share her journey with you to show you just how seamless it was. Watch Alexa’s procedure below!
The Procedure
Alexa’s RLE procedure was performed right at LENS & LASIK in St. John’s. The process was simple, efficient, and guided by the same clinical team she works alongside every day.
“The surgery took less than 20 minutes per eye,” she says. “They used numbing drops, and I didn’t feel a thing. I couldn’t believe how fast it all went.”
After the procedure, Alexa went home the same day wearing protective shields — and with clear instructions for post-op care and recovery.

Recovery and Results
Alexa’s recovery was smooth. By the next morning, she woke up to an entirely new world.
Today, Alexa enjoys crisp, seamless vision at all distances — without glasses or contacts. Whether she’s working at the clinic, reading a book, or out for a walk, her vision is clear and effortless.
“I tell everyone: if you’re on the fence, go for it. It’s been completely life-changing,” she says. “Not just as a patient, but as someone who works here and sees the results every day — I can truly say you’re in the best hands with Dr. Jackman and the team.”
Thinking About RLE?
RLE is recommended for patients who are better candidates for lens-based surgery (i.e. RLE) than for cornea-based laser vision correction (i.e. LASIK or PRK). If you’re not a good candidate for LASIK, then RLE could be a good fit for you.
